    • Attended monthly District Commissioners Meetings
  • Assisted as needed on contracting and infrastucture development by EJFR:

    • Interior furniture
    • Access ramp &  handrail
    • Septic system operational

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE (Cheryl Brunette, Chair)

  • Communicated EJFR and MIF information through groups.io, Nextdoor, and Marrowstone Island Facebook page
  • Maintained the MarrowstoneIsland@groups.io email group at $240 per year,  with an average of 280 subscribers, all of whom are verified as residents and/or property owners
  • Created a petition in support of reopening the Nordland Post Office, collecting over 260 names with island street addresses  and some 240 comments, all of which were sent  to the Port Hadlock postmaster, and will be sent to Maria Cantwell and Derek Kilmer.
  • Facilitated internal Board of Directors information exchange

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS/RESILIENCE COMMITTEE (Doug Moore, Chair)

  • Assisted EJFR for resiliency of Fire Station 5:
    • Secured a Solar Plus Storage Grant of $95, 516 from the WA State Department of Commerce for 22kW generation with 54kW storage, sized for 8 to 9 months of the year with the most sunshine. It will provide independent electrical power to Station 5 for those months, and in an emergency with long term electrical outage it can power most of the needs of the station
    • The remaining cost for the system, $40,936, is expected to be funded by a federal grant not yet secured.
    • Assisting in reserve water tank installation or similar system including keeping the existing well.
    • Steps toward developing an emergency supply of equipment, food, and medical supplies stored on site.
    • House emergency radio equipment.
  • Worked with WA State Parks (Fort Flagler) on emergency planning and coordination.

ISLAND TRAILS COMMITTEE (Jim Nuerenberg, Lead)

  • We are in the early stages of this Committee which developed:
    • Mission Statement Elements: Safety, and Pedestrian & non-motorized vehicles (e.g. bicycles, wheelchairs, baby strollers)
    • Concepts: Separation from traffic lanes rather than shoulders if possible. Paved surfaces, packed gravel or asphalt.
    • Long Term Goal: Be part of the new PS2P (Puget Sound to Pacific) system along with PTC (Peninsula Trail Coalition) Olympic Discovery Trail

MIF POLICY UPDATES ad hoc COMMITTEE (Marijo Brantner, Chair)

  • The MIF Board of Directors determined the need for a Gift & Endowment  Policy to outline:
    • The parameters for accepting gifts
    • How designated gifts will be managed
    • How undesignated gifts will be managed and, in he event of  sizable gifts, direct that a minimum of 10% of  gifts in excess of $10,000 be allocated to MIF’s Endowment Fund as ongoing support for the Foundation’s essential purpose.
  • The Board determined that MIF’s Investment Policy needed updating to:
    • Make it consistent with the Gifts and Endowments Policy
    • To reflect current market trends
  • The Board updated the By-Laws to
    • Include the new Gift & Endowment Policy, reflect the changes to the Investment Policy, and to refresh the document  in support of current MIF operations.
